Hi Eston,
Your code rocks. IE doesn't. I hate IE7's rendering of the code, you can see the original page peeking out to the left under the div. I certainly didn't want to move the margin any more into the negative (past -400) because it would wreck the layout on better browsers (btw, Safari and Firefox work splendidly). Any ideas on how to add an IE7 fix?

I'm working on a div for a myspace page and I changed the main color to black and want the sides to be a different color. How do I add the sides as a different color? All thats there is the main div. I'm kinda new at this stuff and learning.

Abigail,
My suggestion is to turn things invisible (hidden) and then do a div on top of the empty space, instead of the default profile.
I have some code to do that here:
<a href="http://views-under-construction.blogspot.com/2007/02/hiding-default-myspace-page.html" rel="nofollow">hiding the default myspace page"</a>
I have a few different options, depending on how much of the top menu/search area you want to hide.
Once you do this, you may need to add an explicit visible to the div overlay.

Meah,
It isn't that you are not making sense, it is that I have no way of knowing what you have already done to your page. Leave me a message via myspace, I don't check back here that often. I might be able to help you (no guarantee). And maybe it is already past your deadline.
