About Eston
I’m Eston Bond, a twenty-something technologist currently handling design, creative direction and some front-end engineering at startup isocket in Silicon Valley. I currently live in Burlingame, California, on the peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. When I have extra time, I am a design advisor for various early-stage companies in the social space.

Personal Life
When I’m not at work, I’m most likely doing something silly with my girlfriend Jolie O’Dell. If I’m doing something alone, I’m out driving through the foothills, reading texts on cognitive science, economics and geopolitics, shooting firearms or trying to teach myself how to make something that sounds cool in Ableton Live. Every now and then, I’ll fire up my Xbox to play a few rounds of Modern Warfare 2.
Professional Life
Recently, I was Principal Interaction Designer at News Corporation Digital Media, living part-time in Los Angeles. I was also the game designer and creative director for the original version of Twitter-based viral hit Spymaster, which turned iList, Inc. to Irata Labs, a Draper Fisher Jurvetson-backed game studio acquired by News Corporation. Before that, I was a Product Designer on Growth, Virality, and New User Initiatives at Facebook and a user experience designer at top interactive agency Organic, Inc. My first forays into software development were for embedded systems and Palm OS development in high school, where I did work for government contractors.
When I’m not coding for work, sometimes I code for fun. I release various plugins and code through Socialuxe Labs.
My complete work history is available on my Linkedin profile.

Software
Client-side, Socialuxe uses sIFR for typography and jQuery for Javascript effects and asynchronous processing. Server-side, Socialuxe uses WordPress, nginx, memcached, mysql and Ubuntu on Media Temple (ve).
Why Socialuxe?
Socialuxe is a portmanteau of social and the noun luxe, reflecting my love for anthropology, interaction and luxury aesthetics, the primary inspiration for much of my work. It also works well given this site's heavy weight on topics involving consumerism and the phenomenon of conspicuous consumption.
Socialuxe Argentum
The current WordPress theme is Socialuxe Argentum, the second in the palettes of the Socialuxe theme series. This theme is currently not available for public use. Socialuxe uses House Industries’ Chalet typeface in its titles and is the primary face modified in the Socialuxe logotype. Subheadings around the site are in Hoefler+Frere-Jones’s Gotham typeface.
